Save A Life

Save A Life

A Poem by Katie Marie

I need...
We say this all the time,
Without thinking.
I need this,
I need that,
But do we really need it all?
The answer is no.
We don't need,
We want.
We want it all,
Then when we get that,
We want more.
This gets to the height,
Of thinking we are always in need.
The only people that should ever say,
I need...
Are the people that have nothing.
The people with no food.
The people with no clothes.
These are the people that can say,
I need...
So why don't we just help these people?
We don't,
Because we are selfish.
We don't,
Because we don't know how it feels,
To be starving.
We don't,
Because we don't know how it feels,
To have no warmth.

You walk into a store,
And there is usually that little jar,
That little box,
To put your extra change.
But most just look at it,
And walk away.
Why?
Well, we need that money, right?
Wrong.
We want that money.
We think that there is something,
Something better than that box,
That the change could go to.
We don't stop to think,
That if we put a little bit in the box,
We could save a life.
If we put a little bit in the box,
We could keep someone warm at night.

So, listen to yourself when you speak.
Do you find yourself saying I need,
                                     I need,
                                    I need?
We don't need,
We want.

This piece is very meaningful and very true as well. It's great to be grateful for what you have instead of being selfish for what you don't have. Maybe if those who are selfish could read this beautiful poem they would have a change of heart : ) This is beautifully written and I enjoyed reading this piece very much : )

I really like this, you express exactly how i feel that society is. We constantly want and so often do not stop to think of others who are truly in need. Wonderful poem!!!

Great wisdom in the poem. The best gift and blessing is your last dollar given to someone with less. Your poem gave good examples and told a real story. A lot of people need help. Last line is fact. In a greedy world. Few will see the pain in the next house. Thank you for the excellent poem.
