Jam Jars

at 2am I’m singing songs to you inside my head
sun-honeyed eyes and velvet sighs from the comfort of my bed
with your hand around my neck
blush blossoming a cherry red

I wish I could remember every word you’ve ever said
but I’m only human and in time I will forget
though there’s the feeling of every sentiment
sentence fragments and the faintest scent
you could hurt me but you haven’t yet

when you laugh I feel like I’m a kid again
reliving all of the carefree innocence
it’s something pure and uncontainable, isn’t it?
it’s so familiar and yet I’ve never felt like this
I just wanted you to know

I don’t wake with the sun but with you
and in the night I see you brighter than the moon
first thing on my mind and that’s the truth
I would never lie about such things to you
