A Chapter by Mackenzie Knitter
"

I listened to Somebody Else by 1975 (Dodie's cover) all day.

"
Today was my first day.
My first day on my own.
As I lugged my heavy suitcase into my room, I looked around
And I smiled.

I unpacked my things, I called the bank.
It all felt strange, I had no safety net,
No one but me being held responsible.
Not like much can happen while unpacking,
But I'm known for being dramatic.

This city is inspiring, I want to go for a jog,
Paint a masterpiece, change the world.
And for the first time ever, opportunity is right at my fingertips,
Just waiting to be used.

But all in all, I felt like an adult today.
I checked the bank, I did the dishes.
I read a book in the chair next to the window overlooking the city.

Then my stomach growled.

So I looked up the directions to the nearest grocery store and bought:
Eggs
Milk
Cereal
Bread
4 packages of minute rice
Granola bars
1 jar of peanut butter
Then I came home and made my first meal as an adult living on my own.

Scrambled eggs with motherfucking peanut butter toast.
