The Bolshevik Beast

A political poem, directed against the evil of socialism.

It likes to prey,
on the poor and weak,
those who are meek,
succumb to it's deceit

It speaks of equality,
and the common man,
but the stated aims,
are in truth a sham

It hopes to blame,
the world's intelligensia,
royalty and capitalists,
members of Mensa

The individual is another foe,
wherever this beast,
dares to go,
the socialist seed,
it likes to sow

Propoganda and central planning,
such tools of the past,
are clearly damning,
indictments of,
the bane of man.

Indeed the bane of man. What has happen to the great societies of the world, when they have succumb to socialism? Their economies tank because it matters not whether there is competition, whether it be in business, medicine, ect.

I fear most that my own country is headed in that direction. I pray that cool minds and conservatism will prevail.

sorry it took me so long to get over here. This is a powerfully written piece and it says so much. I, too, love your wording in here as it conveyed your message flawlessly. It flowed well and with much strength. Great work!!!!

Any "ism" forced from above can't work. What you describe isn't socialism, it's more like an authoritarian-socialism a la Mao, Castro, or Stalin. I know, I've chosen "communist" examples, but that's the extreme - an extreme you highlight in your poem. Most of Europe is socialist, even the centre-right parties. That's a better example. Sweden and Finland are the best examples, utterly lacking in what your poem describes.

Looking at your poem technically, it flows well, but I find the rhyming a little haphazard - that's the fascist in me. In my narrow view of the world you either rhyme or you don't rhyme at all, you do it regularly or you don't, you do it metrically or don't bother. It's supposed to be patterned word-play, and if you don't have a pattern, what do you have?

All isms are evil. Monotheism, Communism, Capitalism. All looks great on paper, but never works in reality.

Anyway, this is well written-technically, but not as brutal as it could have been. I mean, I can see the intent, but I just don't feel the conviction. Of course, I'm not saying this is in anyway bad, but I think you tip toe about your vehemence. But then, isn't that politics for you?!

Could have been longer, but then, it works like this. I probably wouldn't make it longer.

But that aside, nice wording. You've got the flow going; I like that you've used rhyme in some places. "intelligensia"-nice!
