A Poem by Ashley Blair

A thin wire drapes like a
razor blade
It draws blood to the
touch
Fragile fingers
Plead for a stop request
On a fast moving
Bus

Oh, no one can deny that
Her delicate frame
Stumbled through
That door
A man with hollow eyes and
And ivory smile
Seduced her

She handed him
Everything she ever loved
A ticket to ride, he handed her
A ticket to die

And how her bones collapsed
Into that seat
Caving into the
Machine’s desires
She was ready
To depart
To be taken across
The threshold

She
Gazed outside
Feeling her light slip
From them
Her life moving behind
Her in vignettes
Color in
Motion

And this was her
Surrender letting
It fade to black
Forever

She tilted back in
Dark ecstasy
In horror feeling the pain shoot
Through her body but
Her hand

It reached up
Fighting against
Her own bones
And it pulled
The string that was
Almost cut

And shakily, wearily
She stood with bright eyes
Staring at that
Bus driver
At death; and she said:
“Please, I would like to make
A stop request.”

aahhh...yess....creative, dramatic, unique, and very well done with the artistic decision when breaking your stanzas the way that you did. Amazing read. Thank you for sharing.
