Little Shadow

Little Shadow

A Poem by Leigh
"

"Every frightened little shadow dreams of being a golden strand of light"

"

I am a little shadow
In the land of grey and
black
I drift between the trees
Among the dark shadows
So shadows be still
Don’t drag me down

I wait for the night to end
When the first of light comes
Then I can be free
To dance and play
As a
golden strand of light
High up in the air above

I will make beautiful colours
Shimmering on the water
Reflecting on a window's glass
Making pretty patterns
Until the night comes again
So be still dark
shadows

Ah, to be a shadow with a life. They do express themselves well.
Excellent!

I really like shadow poems...I enjoyed your words very much...I think the last two lines could actually be reversed...see how that works out for you. SyberRose

I think the quote before the poem was the best part. Maybe use that as your last line?

like the concept.

Artists see another colour of the life-giving, form-filling (nothing to do with bureaucrasy), shape-shifting shadow. That is purple.... there was a water colourist (C.W. Johnson) who painted before and after the first world war who used purple as his preferred colour to paint shadows.... the dark side of Ultra-vioet.

You have given your little shadow a voice, letting the world know that even little shadows have feelings and shouldn't be shunned away and forgotten about after dark. Your words are filled with hope and life and every shadow needs to reach that light at the end of a dark tunnel... :O)

Lovely play on words... :O)

I see this insightful piece as an analogous poem about perspective. The light reflects and is defined by where it cannot reach.... by the shadows providing depth and definition. I may be way off the mark, but in any case I love the poem. P.

This evokes the sun for me...just before peeking above the horizon; as it waits for its time when it rises enough to chase the shadows. The beams of light dancing through trees and buildings as it makes it way high into the sky. I loved the lines,
"I will make beautiful colours
Shimmering on the water
Reflecting on a window's glass
Making pretty patterns"
I can feel the warmth all the way over here. Lovely write....

This is a piece about waiting to me...the shadow is a personification of a person who spends their time waiting for something. There is the possibility for beauty and freedom, but it can only come after a period of passed time. At least this is what I saw. I like the write. Nice imagery, interesting metaphor, and nice tempo/beat. Well done.
