The Allure of the Sea

The Allure of the Sea

A Poem by Leigh

Everyday I go into the sea

I can’t help it, it's calling me

Winking its eye with glistening light

I find I’m racing for the shore every night

Under moonstruck waves and frothy foam

All at once I am so alone

No one in the world can get near me

When I am swimming in the beautiful sea

For hours and hours I will stay in there

like a frolicking whale without a care

It cools my body from head to toe

Cleaning and healing, to and fro

On the horizon is the death of a star

Crimson and Orange, just a long Purple scar

And sadly now with my feet on dry land

I feel again a compulsion I cannot understand

This was a beautiful poetic tribute to the sea and all of the beauty and adventure that comes with it. Really nicely done

strong closing .. speaks to a need for cleansing and comfort we don't understand ... and i especially like the purple scar horizon line ... for me it's where your poem's tires hit the proverbial road .. without our scars .. the bliss of solitude might, perhaps be out of reach for us ..

a beautiful picture painted with your words. I cant even swim and was feeling jealous as i read this. The under moonstruck waves line really brings the image of this piece to life.

I really like the flow and rhythm of this. The only thing I would change is the small typo in the second to last sentence (sadky to sadly). Good job!

Hi leighgreen,

I enjoyed your poem. It has a nice, light rhythm that almost implies the movements of the waves in the sea. It reminds me a bit of Masefield's "Sea Fever." One thing that intrigued me was what you said that being alone, and that no one can get near you in the sea. Is this the cry of a person who has been wounded, or merely the time for enjoying solitude, or both?

This almost makes me fall in love with the sea :P I agree with your sentiment. The ocean is a beautiful place, and just its sight helps one clear her mind and lose herself in peace.
