Soldier

Soldier

A Poem by Lindsay

Built up a wall so no one can enter

A castle with gates and soldiers

To prevent anyone from coming.

Or happiness from seeping in.

And to lock the sadness inside.

Because sadness is your only companion.

It comforts you when no one is there.

Makes it think it’s your friend.

It is these same soldiers who killed you.

Stuck a sword in your heart,

Leading to endless heartache.

Shocked your nerves

So you are always in pain.

Removed your bones. Organs.

So you are empty inside. Hollow.

Shot you in the head

So you are apathetic.

Your personality floating away

Like the soul of a loved one

Who has passed on.

You are left with nothing.

The funeral proceeds as you say goodbye.

Goodbye to the person you were.

Goodbye to the happiness. The vitality.

The memories of the past.

The soldiers who took your life

Forever there to prevent it from coming back.

Dead but alive at the same time.

And you’d rather just be dead.
