Your Voice

Your Voice

A Poem by Loribeth215
"

Sometimes, it's not the words, but how you say them.....

"

your voice

has the same timbre I remember

that little pause, a breath,

when I speak your name.

holding the phone tighter,

I remember how you used to look

when that word crossed your lips

I said something polite, a rush of words...

who knows what they were?

My heart was wandering

somewhere in the past

remmebering

the tenderness of your voice.

There is something to be said about how all the time can appear to disappear, when we speak again with somebody we have not spoken to in what seems like forever. It can be as if no time had passed, as if it were just earlier in the day rather than over ten years ago. What is said may not be remembered, just lost in the memories of the voice itself.... of previous conversations. It is amazing, how true this can be.

Nostalgia can be painful. And yes, the way and tone in which words are said are more powerful than the content itself.

Nice write. You have a unique style I enjoy.
