Goodnight

Goodnight

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by Jenny Hambleton "Girls Curls"

Conversation bends at the waist
sleepy eyes drink in love brewed with desire
amazing how well your arms feed my sensuality
                 allowing it to blossom
but the truth is my morning caffeine has eloped
with things better left unsaid
            can you hear them?
impenetrable curves of night enter the picture perfectly
yet this edgy poem screams to be scribbled
before slumber has her way with me
and I kiss dreams of you goodnight

I enjoyed this poem dear Lydia. Felt like a morning whisper.
"but the truth is my morning caffeine has eloped
with things better left unsaid
can you hear them?"
Morning caffeine can alert the mind to be careful. A perfect ending to the excellent poetry.

pleasure. always.
Your words give me cause to swoon with the mere thought of that which you are able to convey to the reader - the desire, the sensuality, the time spent with another that is the reason one might be a bit sleepy eyed at dawn, or reason not to get up at all...LOL
Oh, how I just get lost in your words, and the image of the sleeping woman is as one who just never wants to leave that dream world of real time passion!

Your phrase-turning is stunning.
A metaphorical delight!
Smart and eloquently emotive!

Difficult to read everyone's work, Willard. I understand that. Thank you for reading this one and .. read more
How could one simply close their eyes and sleep after reading this? It is wake up call if ever I read one...
Yet Lydi, your assumption is true to human nature. We miss out on the best of life far too often because we are in no state of mind to recognize the opportunities.
A penetrating write! Well done Lydi!

First off, I love the painting that you chose to go with your poem. It's striking. Your words are like the steam rising from that coffee, warm and plaintive, smoldering and sweet. Just beautiful!

Thank you very much, Linda. That painting spoke to me! Lydi**
okay, this is my all time favorite from you..

"conversation bends at the waist"
"my morning caffeine has eloped with things better left unsaid"
and "this edgy poem screams to be scribbled"

talking unnecessary, just the being with, arms feeding the sensuality...that is all that is needed

then a quiet breakfast in the morning.
