we can still dance

we can still dance

A Poem by Lydia Shutter

artwork by anna razumovskaya

just beneath the surface of the day

under the rumblings and grumblings of life

there is a crack in the darkness

come, take a peek through my telescope

do you see the spot of light?

there plays our song

if you listen carefully you will hear its sweet notes

and we can still dance to it, you know

if we’d only stop chasing the minutes

that have not yet ticked

stop inventing excuses

the dance floor is waiting

and so are my arms

A very beautiful message is conveyed in this short poem...we must not fret about the times that have yet not ticked, or about the times that are long gone...it is hard to let go of all these inhibitions and be totally care free, but we can always try once in a while...to make each moment count..

You hit the nail on the head. We spend so much time on nothingness, when we should be out there living.
Time waits for no one. Get dancing.

Absolutely! Thank you, Paul. Lydi**
soft and gentle waltzing in the bliss of "our song" ..i am just a bit jealous of your speaker Lydia ... of the two loves in my life we never had that "moment" .. perhaps during the "...crack in the darkness" ...i should seek it out eh!? :) lovely read experience ..wouldn't change a thing

This is full of sadness for wasted time and it conjured up the Eagles song of that name for me. It has a haunting melody just like this piece.

We all waste time....and it is truly criminal. Thank you, John. Lydi**
I cannot dance at all, but I can appreciate this loveingly crafted romantic poem about still having the sparks in a realtionship through the years.

Thank you so much. Lydi**
Touching! Though it has no rhymes and irregular syllable count per lines, the message is striking. I love it.

You welcome is very adorable and amusing piece
"stop chasing the minutes
that have not yet ticked
stop inventing excuses
the dance floor is waiting"

We to dance is up to the right moment, the right beats and the right invitation from the other partner. Just dive fully and enjoy every moment. Keep the rhythm between the two hearts and ears. An excellent one with a marvelous painting...:)....

You are welcome. ...:::))))
We do love watching that clock and seeing the seconds, minutes and hours disappear before our very lethargic eyes, instead of living the moment and being thankful for that little light that still reaches us.
Beautiful and elegant words, as always Lydi.
