tonight the clouds
skitter scatter
the half smile of the moon
seems to taunt me
i sway to the eternal dance of the stars
though my soul is heavy
with echoes of long ago memories
i run my thumb along the frayed edges
of too many fair to partly cloudy thoughts
you really can't go home again
but maybe if i try long enough
i can stitch a symmetrical tapestry
from those frayed edges
and then smile back at the moon

"i sway to the eternal dance of the stars
though my soul is heavy
with echoes of long ago memories"

Such beautiful and evocative words dear Lydi. Holidays simultaneously bless and taunt us with faded memories that run and run like old movie reels in our minds... Your exquisitely penned verse is like a faery-dance through the flickering images. I join you in this dance & absolutely love this!

Memories can be either friend or foe, can haunt the spirit or help the heart I read such sadness in your words, and wish there were magic words i could send to hlp you, Lydi. Guess one can only look at the stars and somehow find one to magic you calm. Not easy, but wishing you peace, dear friend.

Thank you so much, Sharon. Lydi**
oh .. so melancholy but not depressing .. we must keep our stitching kits close at hand and ready at all times eh!? really like the work you do with the clouds and moon in this .. Beauregard and i watch the early morning skies every day ... we are watching the same aren't we? i watched the skitter scatter clouds across the smile of the moon .. beautiful poem .. very relatable ..written for human beings :)))

yes, can't go home again...but the frayed memories can be sewn back together....and make us smile.

Your poetry never fails to show, to be engaging, and to tug at the heart strings.
