My basement stairs

My basement stairs

A Poem by Avi Lynn
"

The past, may it stay there.

"
It's flooding through my mind
pouring in like the rain
flooding, resembling the basement
where all the creepy stuff lives
in the darkest dark
nobody wants to go there
but as hard as i try
i cant stop the flood
and it gets worse
and f*****g ruins everything
makes the wall swell with mold
makes my head hurt
my nose runs
my mind bursts
from the despair this all caused
but i can fix the wall
repair the damage
how do I do the same...
to my mind?

I think the basement here is symbolic of the subconscious mind. That is indeed where all of our "creepy stuff" lives. My sense is that the speaker has many bad memories, some that he recalls, but others that are repressed. Now it seems they are starting to rise up into consciousness again. I think a trip to a therapist is in order here.
