Despite the elite voice cast that is English, PSO2 simply does not have an interesting story. Most of it is doled out by rigid characters that lack lip sync and feel as Phantasy Star Online 2 Meseta a waste of time. And to be clear, it truly does not matter; that is certainly not the sort of game you play for the narrative, so the programmers have clearly only focused their attention elsewhere.

And so in an odd but much-appreciated move, PSO2 almost completely removes its exposition from the actual game. Each one the assignments you select have a few bits of voice over sprinkled in but otherwise it's just about halfway through enemies and with much more fun consequently. The conversations that move the narrative forward are self explanatory as story quests from the main quest-giver NPC, which prevents them from slowing the pace of missions.

Instead of have you explore a sprawling open world of connected zones, PSO2 utilizes a lobby as well as system to congregate Phantasy Star Online 2 gamers and allow everybody to chat and group up. Once you've recognized a mission you will only see people in your party and a couple of others that may be doing the exact same mission. It is a really objective-focused format that keeps things going quickly at all times, but it loses a whole lot of the discovery and feel of scale that normally goes hand-in-hand with MMOs. Supposedly, ARKS Operatives explore entire planets to eradicate the Falspawn, but you just see a few procedurally generated arenas every mission.

The end result is a method that was likely a whole lot more feasible to run on an Xbox 360 eight decades back, but playing with it today it feels just like the shadow of what a modern MMO like this could accomplish. Quests come in a handful of tastes, like Expeditions that usually set you off in a semi-open map to hunt down specific creatures, collect materials, or just beat the end boss. Then you will find particular Client Orders to fulfill on quests, which can be similar to side contracts which could reward enormous amounts of cheap PSO2 Meseta XP when you take on several at a time, in addition to the narrative conversation assignments themselves. But the best type of quests in PSO2 are Certainly the Urgent Quests.
