The Kiss That Greeted Me

The Kiss That Greeted Me

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

The Kiss that Greeted Me

Yours was the kiss

that greeted me

that welcomed me home

at the end of the day,

that warmed my heart

like a Hemingway novel.

Author's Note

Kelly Scheppers
I'm coming up on the time of year that I feel most melancholy about...the anniversaries of the passing of both my parents and older sister. October, November and December.

The sepia tones of this Mecuro B. Cotto artwork simply captivated me, and somehow breathed life into my words. May it remind you of someone that greeted you with a kiss!

This is a sadly forlorn piece for an emotion once felt but of which you were robbed. Expressed in such brevity and sensuality Kelly.

You're welcome and all's well. :) Rudi
with the greeting of a kiss, no words need to be spoken...it is said in the gesture...and i like the reference to Hemingway who used so few words and yet expressed so much----

nicely done.

Thank you, Aaron...may it come to you soon!
It's a beautiful work. A simple loving tribute that says volumes with so little. that's the mark of a born writer, my dear, an inborn understanding of the weight and worth of words. Also, I love Hemingway!!

I love the tone your image sets and your words speak volumes. Hemingway is one of my favorite authors and I can really relate. May you be filled with the fondest memories during those months and I hope they will give you comfort. And remember to write, write, write :-) it always helps me!

Writing truly is the best catharsis! Thank you so much, Dara!
What a great title "The Kiss that Greeted Me". Short but such a sweet piece you have written. I tend to like poems that are straight from the heart, true emotions.

To know a Hemingway ending. Need a spicy bloody Mary and a long night to dance, sing and find the reasons we are alive. Thank you Kelly for sharing the outstanding poetry.
