WISH

WISH

A Story by Nerdlige

A place I see often and often go

But this night was different

 Behind my grandmother’s house

Sat a truck I named "BIG RED"

It once belonged to someone dear to me

But now gone I sit in the darkness

 Of the midnight sky

Covering me like a blanket of black

With my thoughts rushing by like shooting stars

I begin to look up and see not one of them

Not one star in this beautiful night sky I love

Not one star for the children to wish on

In the thought of letting it go

 I close my eyes

To hope fully put my mind too rest

But one thought makes another

 And that other makes another

 Tell my head starts spinning

Oh how I wish there were stars in this sky too night

I would wish on all of them at once for it to stop spinning

 In time I gave up

 And opened my eyes

To see I am not where I once was

I am at my old house in my old yard

And who else is there the one I hold dear and near

My father he is speaking to me

 But what is he saying?

"Do you see that star that star is Mars."

I to try to stop the crying

 I close my eyes

And hold them tight

 And ask.

“Why? Why did you have to go? “

I slowly open my eyes

 And he’s gone

And I am left right back where I started

 Sitting there on "BIG RED"

 Finally I look up

 To see millions of stars

 And the one called Mars.
