A Gift of Seasons

Although

I have so many

Autumns now

Beneath my belt

It was

The winters

Stole

My youth

Tho spring it would

Distract me so and

Took

My innocence

Twas summer

Always smiled

On me and pointed

T’ward the truth

Then would you have it

Any other way my friend

No, but gift me

One last summer….

I understand this perfectly, Neville. I too have far more autumns under my belt than I care to mention, but I will take as many more as I am gifted and be happy for them.
In my part of the world the four seasons are an accepted part of life...each one special in its own way...right now summer has been almost perfect.
Winter can be difficult...but "global warming"..."climate change"...whatever else they'd like to call it...I prefer weather...will change that, right? ;>{0}

A good write, sir.

A superb reflection on our lives Neville. The seasons do form a gauge and backdrop to our actives and where would we poets be without them, close bosom friend! As I spend so much time outdoors the seasons they are very real in all their detail. Your last line draws us back to that fate which is ours and no distant date.
Cheers,
Alan

The stages of life and feelings presented as seasons. How it reads to me.
I could use some warmth too. Winter can be quite harsh to endure for too long.

dearest Neville... it is the Summer with Peonies
bursting forth likes breasts of fresh air... that gives us
Perchance to dream... Yes, Spring does steal our primal
feelings and Winter darn near freezes our lust...
However, Spring will awaken every Bud... no matter
how many seasons have been spent. truly, Pat

I always love the warmer months, open, breezy and sunny. Winters to me are about cold and darkness and concealment. Its natural to long for summers. Beautiful concept, dear sir!

Second time around. Can't believe it's a year since I read this last. I would say you are a man for all seasons who has lived them all and well. Albeit as we get older the winters seem prolonged and summer is a long time coming. And right now I think we are saying goodbye to summer because the inclement weather tells me autumn is on our doorstep well and truly.

I have to be honest, there were many years I was NOT begging for more. But there's something irresistible about life that beckons even when we're dead set against the path. And now that I made it this far, I'm glad I had that damn stubborn will to survive! I love the way you paint each season with fresh sensations, not typical imagery. This had the effect of blasting me from my usual season interpretations & pondering new ones! (((FLIP))) Fondly, Margie

Truth like passing seasons brings us to the place where we need to eventually arrive- temperatures differ and we live and learn sometimes we can’t always have what we want...🌹
