Insidious

Insidious

A Poem by Neville

Insidious

All that exists

Between

My night and

Your day

Now hangs in

The balance

A broad circle

Of insidious

Shifting

Light shadows

And

Very few of

Them are Smiling

How on earth

Did all that

Happen

How did our love

Become

So fragile

Like a spent

Chrysalis

Amid so much

Suffering

When and where

Did we go wrong

Insidious is a great word for this & your poem shows it convincingly! This reminds me of the kind of friendships/romances that are untended for years, people taking each other for granted, then acting all amazed that the relationship shriveled from neglect. Frankly, I'm sick of people like this who act surprised that love doesn't thrive on neglect. I guess you struck a nerve with me! (((PRICK!))) Fondly, Margie

This reminds me of the grey veil of these times... it is trying hard to steal the color in life right now:( I vividly remember the first day I walked out the door and saw the world in this new hue everything looked the same but it was indeed covered in a grey gloss. I looked at all of the faces I encountered and the expressions of disbelief was so palpable! Like the grey veil of the nurtures loss in a relationship and over time the view gets further and further cast in shade until the subject of affection becomes a silhouette shadow of what it once was.

it seems we see things similarly... cheers Robert sir :)
'When and where did we go wrong?' A question that has been asked down the ages, and one which I am sure will be asked for as long as we walk this planet.

Curious, isn't it, that so often, those looking on, see more and know more of reasons than those involved; and never were truer words spoken, than, 'can't see the wood for the trees.'

Beccy.

I could relate to this poem on a broader level due to the current global picture. Those unsmiling shadows are portent of doom and felt so so ominous. Yeah, we went horribly wrong somewhere and now it’s beyond our control. This is an amazing poem. Stay safe you too, my friend.

my word.. you could toast a marshmallow on the heat of this blush...
I really like the imagery of a "spent crysalis."
I think every relationship reaches this phase sooner, or later, but it's always what you decide to do next that counts. Communication and patience are key to every relationship, whether romantic or platonic.

Love needs to be cherished and nurtured for it to endure. Like a rose in the garden it will die without water. Sadly too many forget that in all types of relationships. Family, friends and partners. Now of all times, that is something to ponder on. Your poem gave me images of shifting sands, of peaks and troughs. There needs to be balance to get things right. Beautiful poem Neville, delivered perfectly. Keep safe and well.

When love hangs in the balance a raw wind blows rainbows away and your words describe the result so well Nev. - - not many smiles ever lighten the shadows once indifference births fragility. The write points out vital lessons to learn - -Oooh my apology for the fervour when all I wanted to say was the unanswerable question ending your verse rang a powerful memory-bell. - - Keep safe dear amigo............... x Fay

too many relationships end up with this same question..."how the heck did we get here?"
and "what happened to us?"
