Farewell Waltz

Dedicated to Monsieur Chopin

You said farewell to your beloved lady,

And sacrificed your joy for her own sake.

You kept your feelings hidden, never shady,

And spoke them only through the notes you'd make.

You suffered from a sickness not your fault,

That barred you from her presence and her touch.

She feared to be a widow by default,

And left you lonely, though she loved you much.

But you were such a gentleman and brave,

You bade her goodbye through your music's art.

She gave you your portrait, the only save,

That shows you calm and happy, not apart.

Salute to you, my friend I never met,

I hear you still, through chords I can't forget.

Author's Note

Frederic Chopin and Maria Wodzinska were engaged to each other for a while. Maria was a brilliant woman who played Piano and was a good painter. She painted the portrait of Chopin that is seen above the poem. It's the only illustration that shows Chopin calm and happy( among paintings drew at the time of his life). Maria's father did not agree of their marriage due to Chopin's weak health. As a goodbye to his beloved, Chopin composed the "Farewell Waltz" and dedicated it to Maria.

Nice tribute. I really like that last line. Poetic gold I'd call it! Personally I like it when a poet adds a little background and history about their inspiration. Thanks for that too.

You owed me a syllable in the last one and there's one extra syllable in this. Let's just call it even. You got the rhyme pattern right for English Sonnet. Nice! Still out of meter here and there though. It's tricky, I know. Especially if you don't speak English as your first. Pretty soon you'll have to start thinking about punctuation, but you're definitely on the the go with your Sonnet show!

Thanks man🙏🤞. It's wonderful to be even after all lol. Let's call my sonnets Nima Sonnetry 😅. Moden Persian poems are Called "Nima Pottery" because the first person founded this type of poem in Persian poetry was Nima Youshij.

The stupid traditions of the old time, is still seen in many countries. These so called traditions, for example the fear of being widowed, has brought many pain to the heart of lovers. Poor Chopin........

Thank you dear Chris. I live with Chopin's music and I am playing it in my mind even when I'm not listening to music.
I thank you sincerely for your wishes. There's nothing to worry now and I feel great these days, that's why I removed that poem. Things were positive during the last 2 months.
