Prolouge

I was only 8 when my life changed forever. I was swept out of my bed and carried really fast down the flight of steps to the basement. I thought I had been kidnapped and was about to die until I recognized my neighbor, Sally.

She didn't say a word until we were both safe in the basement, then she told me the heartbreaking news that my mother and father had been killed and that half my house was destroyed due to bombing.
