Afterlife

Afterlife

A Poem by Olumegbon
"

What happens next when we die?

"
All souls are snatched the same,
Background doesn't change a thing,
Is there really a place of doom?
Where all sinners are condemned to,
Or just a conscience to judge,
And not a fantasy of an heavenly place of love,
Is there really a higher being,
Or just a bunch of misguided beings,
Will thy righteous ways be regretted,
For the pleasure of the flesh was neglected,
Do souls really live on,
When we still never hear from our lost ones,
Is earth really a sojourn,
When it's our only known home,
Do our consciousness also decay,
Because in our demise we are never really aware,
Is death the destination,
Or a passage to an expectation.

It reads too much like an essay, broken into individual lines. But if the language isn't poetic, making the reading, itself fun; if there's no prosody to give a cadence to the reading, what's left but a question: Is there really a god or are we on our own? And without an answer...

You asked so many questions and there are no answers.
"Is there really a place of doom?
Where all sinners are condemned to,
Or just a conscience to judge,
And not a fantasy of an heavenly place of love, "
The above lines are the questions I have been asking my complete life. No real proof of heaven or hell. I believe we must try to live the good life and hope there is a better place. Thank you my friend for sharing the amazing poetry. Left the reader with a lot to think about.
