New Rooms

New Rooms

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

New Rooms

Oxford is full of new rooms

and students,

and tourists,

and push bikes.

Its dreaming spires

are photographed

and painted,

captured in time.

They are visited

and venerated.

They offer hope

to those who aspire

and charm those

who would simply adore

the pleasure of architecture.

But if you are poor,

if you are homeless

or if you are schizophrenic

Oxford has no room.

Wow.
Love this.
I want to give you 500 out of 100, but it will only let me give you 100...
So I shall give you 100 and tell you it is that and then some!
But hey, at least I am not giving you one right?

I work with the mentally ill in Oxford so its also sadly very true. Thank you.
The poor, homeless and mentally ill become invisible compared to the architecture of the beautiful buildings or people just turn a blind eye and don't see them, won't see them. Good piece about how we as a society ignore those in need and cater to those who we deem worthy.

Thank you Heather. I work with the mentally ill.
One of the places I'd like to visit, should I ever get to go to the UK.
A beautiful piece, and sad.

Well i'd be most honoured to show you round.
I like it. The flow and the repetation of and creates excitement in the poem). But at the end you've created a tense atmosphere. Loved it :) keep writing

it's so annoying when they won't stay out of sight. cluttering up our pretty streets. not that we want to pay to house them, either. or feed them. why don't they just straighten up and become productive like us?

i hope my sarcasm font was working. jesus said something about how you 'treat the least of these" shows how you treat him. we are all one. your character isn't defined by how well you treat certain people you may like. it's defined by how you treat even the most humble and unloveable. something those who say they follow jesus seem to have forgotten.

About
Well, have a long and complicated story and started it as an autobiography on Bebo but got writer's block/memory fogging. People liked it though and kept asking for the next chapter! fools.. more..
