Lost Souls

Lost Souls

A Poem by John Alexander McFadyen

We search for meaning under every leaf

and every leaf's for the turning,

but there we find such short relief

as for peace our heart's still yearning.

And when we tap the compass' face

for to have it guide us home

we can but go at our own pace

for we know not where we roam.

So within the folds of this forest scene

we're still seeking out true meaning,

and strain to see all things unseen

but still, we're only dreaming.

We are the souls lost far from shore

all praying for salvation

and treading water evermore

in ceaseless contemplation.

loved this. It flows nicely and holds beautiful imagery.
Favorite line:
"So within the folds of this forest scene

and strain to see all things unseen
but still, we're only dreaming"

Well done! Thanks for sharing.

great piece of poetry with some fine metre and rhyme, but there seems to be a sea in the middle of the forest, lol

We are all lost in one way or another. A somber write that provokes much thought about what really matters in life. Excellent write!

Indeed many of us are lost and remain so throughout life. Many thanks David.

Another write to ponder on, are we lost souls because we have not found peace?
Are we just greedy not happy with what we have, or do we have the right to want more and hence feel lost?

Thank you Andrew, been in Spain for a month.
This is really great and reminded me of the video by Disturbed for their cover of the Simon & Garfunkel song, "The Sound of Silence." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u9Dg-g7t2l4

Your voice in this poem is like the weather in Virginia today. Overcast and cloudy, with a hope for sun.

What lies in the heart doesn't always reconcile with what lies under our feet or in front of us. We wander life seemingly blind to the most important things in life, often untouched and unseen. Sadly, most don't know what they don't know... and the treasures of life remain undiscovered, leaving more lost souls. And, I wonder some days if I'm among the lost. Such richness and wisdom in these words, sir.
