Hold On

Hold On

A Poem by Dara

Holding onto yesterday,

I see you slipping from my hands.

I reach for you but lose my grip

against the cold and shifting sand.

Your look, your thoughts, are not mine,

they keep changing with the tide.

I breathe you in, you breathe me out,

all these feelings I hold inside.

I am drowning in my emotions,

feeling empty and forlorn.

I fear the world will swallow you whole

 where family ties are worn.

But be strong my dear, don’t falter

through the waning of the moon.

As sure as the sun rises in the morning,

            love will find us soon.

Very emotional piece. Shows the care taken of an extra large heart of the author. Beautifully written.

i was a little confused about speaker and subject .. then read your note and it all makes sense .. first three lines for me are especially brilliant .. sound wisdom .. how the past can haunt us and steal away lives bit by bit .. love the pic of our Lord ..faith is our rock .. and funny thing is (at least for me) we don't hold nor obtain it .. we collapse on it ;)

Before arriving at the author's note, I thought amnesia, and age related dementia - a haunting agony that begs so hard for the enduring love of carers.

I think it's beautiful! Where have all of your other poems gone? Did you delete? I am looking forward to reading them. My secret garden needs watering. I love the gentleness in your poems.

Your words warm my heart. Yes, the garden just needed a little tending but is up and running again.
Impressive and well done. Not overdone and rhyming was splendid.
