Memories of love gone by…

I have loved you for a long time
Since your words first caught my eye.
Yet the feeling has grown strong and
I often wonder why.

We had so much fun together
The first time you came to me,
And it seems could last forever.
You are the focus of my dreams.

I think about you every day now.
Your touch is magic and so sublime.
I hope one day that I will know how

It eventually becomes painful but it means you have used one of the great human advantages to its fullest... no other animal is capable of articulating deep emotional love over long periods of time. Burial of the dead is one of the defining characteristics of the human species. Burial of emotion can be a deeper version of that. Remembrance of what is truly precious might be truly unique to humans... I just wish my cat could talk, so I could really be sure.
