Kentucky Winds

Kentucky Winds

A Poem by Dara

I hear her voice as she beckons me

with winds of change

blowing wild and free.

The rolling hills,

a miner’s streaked face

and thoroughbreds grazing

on lush “blue grass”.

Where the Hatfields and McCoys

fought and died,

families poor in possessions

but rich in pride.

And moonshine was made

and sold in droves,

the “mountain dew” of the state

it’s liquid gold.

The hills of Kentucky

are calling me

where winds of change

blow wild and free.

The photo was taken at a Hookah Bar in Louisville that replaced my favorite coffee shop, a sign of the times. (Smiling here) The display with all the colors was beautiful.

You are welcome, dear woman.
With 'progress' comes the new 'cafes' which replace - in my opinion - many of the things that were once good in life...this is why I continue to live in a place that some would call backwards...like you, I prefer on older, simpler times when people visited one another and people weren't consumed with themselves...

I love your sentiment in this piece, Dara, and am right there with you.
