A Safe Place to Land

A Safe Place to Land

A Poem by Dara

She spoke to him softly her voice but a whisper,

he was tired yet listened with all the strength he could muster.

His back ached from carrying the world on his shoulders,

he was a young man but still felt his body getting older.

You are weary come take my hand

and I will find you a safe place to land.

She was a vision of loveliness too good to be true

and he followed her wordlessly he had nothing to lose.

With the scent of roses filling the air

like mist on the river she led him there.

Lean on me please try to stand

and I will give you a safe place to land.

In the days that followed their feelings steadily grew

and as he looked into her brown eyes he suddenly knew.

Her love was all he needed to make his life complete,

together they would create a home no more feelings of defeat.

Upon her finger he placed a gold band

in hopes of finding a safe place to land.

The years flew by and they knew they were blessed

while  happily building their own love nest.

Now they were sheltered and safe in their home,

bound by trust and devotion no need to roam.

Their love knew no boundaries they soared hand in hand

and together had found a safe place to land.

great song! i can feel that joy and happy tears it must have brought to all at your son's wedding. I love the poem! so many relatable memories leaped to me minds eye ... especially of me Da and Ma .. and their relationship ... Dad coming home every single evening from work during the week .. and Mom with us kids there to greet him .. i feel so fortunate to have had the "safe landing" place they provided .... and of course of the mother of my children and late wife ... she reflected all the soft gentleness in your poem and such a strength not of bone and muscle ..so enjoyed reading your poem this morning Dara. glad i found it!
