Heart of the Artichoke

Heart of the Artichoke

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

You are the sweet succulent heart of the artichoke... dipped in creamy butter of delicious desire... You are Rhubarb in early Spring dipped in sugary kisses of love...

"
As passions emerge and hungers delight...
the possibilities soar from bloom to bloom
The blossoms of Spring have become
the hope of summer's reward.
Cranberry and Blueberry golden wheat bread
become the mainstay of a lover's retreat...
served with creamy Brie as chords of Mozart
flood the banks of rippling streams of
promises made under the tender boughs
of summer sighs and bluest of skies.

'Heart of the Artichoke'
Patricia Wedel,
I loved reading this. Softness and light, summer and music with the thread of love holding it all together. So beautiful. I am left yearning for winter to get moving and let Spring come on in. Winter is not finished of course but I love all the seasons.
Thanks for your writing.
Blessings,
Kathy

All I've had to eat since breakfast is a handful of fresh roasted peanuts, so now I'm possessed by the thought of an artichoke. And cheese. And bread. Rhubarb? Seriously, though, this terrific little poem is indicative of the thin line (in my mind, at least) that divides food from the big "L" word....love.

Summer sighs and bluest skies - again, you specialize in packing so much imagery into so few words. I love reading your work, thanks!

I never thought of gardening and poetry together. My wife has a garden every summer, and we watch as the blooms gradually turn to whatever they are going to be. Before long neighbors are locking the doors to their cars for fear of having tomatoes, squash, or maybe a dozen cucumbers stuffed in the back seat.
This is visually delectable.

How do I love your poems Pat, this is such another one, that makes one hungry ;) it's litteraly food for the soul... your metaphors, for nature, food, and flowers, are always so rich, when you write poetry, and I love the heart of the Artichoke, which is the best part of this vegetable... your words, bring a classy and delightful taste. So intense romantic you are.

Beautiful. But of course, even a humble cheeseburger tastes exquisite when one is in love.

Mozart, blue skies, and the juice of a succulent blueberry dripping from my lips.....well, if that is not the setting for romance, nothing is. Summer sighs indeed. Pat, when you wax poetic, the romance is stupendous and the imagery is multi layered. Fantastic poetry. Lydi**
