White-crowned Sparrow

White-crowned Sparrow

A Poem by Patricia Wedel

Dreaming of spending time with you

when late snowflakes fall softly...

You will find me in the Chaparral of

scented Wisteria in early May...

Our feathers will touch as blossoms

on a bough of silent prayer...

with blessings of love and devotion

I bid you a good voyage over land and sea...

My dearest Nightingale..

Such a gentle write Pat. Beautiful thoughts of the nightingale's journey back across sea and land to find that scented wisteria in May. The softness of feathers and petals touched me in this avian love poem. You are a weaver of gentleness dear poet. Your words have feathered wings.

This was interesting. Sparrow songs are so ornate but the White-Crowned Sparrow does not mate for life like some other birds. A female may take a different mate each year but some 75% of the time they choose the same mate when nesting. I was drawn to this because I have a poem titled, When The White-Crowned Sparrow Sings. My poem is not so much about the bird as a woman with a vain and fickle heart. I enjoyed your tribute to this little songbird.

"Our feathers will touch as blossoms on a bough of silent prayer" . . . something about this line really speaks to me. I love how your poem could be about a human addressing a bird or a bird addressing a bird or a human addressing another human! I laugh at the combination of "late snow" & "May" . . . (yesterday it was 81* here from noon until after five!) and you put me into a seasonal state of mind that never happens here! "Chaparral" is one of my favorite words to describe foliage (I use this word often) & also I love the word "wisteria" & all it conjures (I always forget to use wisteria in my poems!) Thanks for taking me on a flutter that took me by surprise with the unexpected combinations of imagery & feeling (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

A gentle soul at peace with the world is needed to write something so beautiful. There is a fragility here that touches deeply; and an understanding of what really matters.

May your voyage through life always be so blessed.

Pat, an ideal poem this sunny Saturday morning. Spring is peeking through my windows. We might see 50 degrees today, and I've heard more birds each sunrise. I see sparrows in greater numbers, and I look forward to seeing them surrounded by green. Thanks for creating and sharing this poem.
