Author's Note

Pryde Foltz
Monsters, Avatars, and Angels contains the short story series Demons, Harlots and Crones, which follows two generations of the Demeere family and its legacy of spite and envy. Included in the series is Demon in High Socks; Holler it out with Lemonade; the Old Lady, Her Plymouth, and Cockroaches; Sex in a Pan; and the Fire Crone and Stone Harlot. Also within its pages are more than a hundred poems exploring the darker side of human nature and its undeniable conclusion. Two Orphan Sparrows, the Devil is a DJ, the Last Striptease, Up From the Roses, and many more titles are found within. Ultimately Monsters, Avatars, and Angels asks the reader to look at the darkness found within herself and by facing it, perhaps go beyond.

The echoes of the past resonating in our minds, with belief or superstition, while we make a sign of the cross at a bump in the night and vainly and wrong comfort ourselves that if we deny and say it was nothing, then it becomes nothing, denied to death. Until the bumps prove otherwise.
I know I am right because my head told me, whilst I was touching wood with fingers crossed, cursing running out of garlic 😀
You may have noticed I didn't say a single swear in this review Pryde... Just in case my ghost gran is reading this over my shoulder. I'm sure I just heard her tut 😀
Atmospheric words, with only the sound of the whistling wind and... There's that tut again! Did you hear it? 😀

The ghost in these parts are raucous bunch. It is hard to hear anything over their racket:) LOL. Tha.. read more
the house had secrets it just did not want to share...
a haunting may drive some out...but i feel ghosts are not really scary, most of the time they are troubled and just wish to be able to communicate with us....they are in pain, in limbo...in the in-between.

Perhaps it is ghost or perhaps a carnivorous tree ... with the house it may be a case of wrong time,.. read more
dear Pryde... there are ghosts in our mind... I hear them every night
when hoot owls screech outside our bedroom window on the second floor
of our house built in 1987. A few families have lived here... do they sometimes
return in their dreams... to recall happy times of love and tears where
memories lie under shingles of vested years. truly, Pat

You are so gracious... dear Lady.
Very creative and marvelously presented. From the spoke words to the visual art, one can enjoy the art of poetry and presentation. Just in time for Halloween which is magical. Exceedingly talented.

You are welcome Pryde.
Well, this is certainly an apt offering for the upcoming Halloween season. I really liked the multi-media approach. I also liked the way the poem, both spoken and read, involved the reader/listener's imagination by only hinting at what might have occurred within the house. No blood and gore, no chains rattling in the night, just the tantalizing, repeated suggestions to keep us on the edge of our seats. Very well done piece all around.
