The Hunt

Going out for the kill

Papa Abbondanza

is going on the hunt;

he’s taking little Joe with him,

but Papa’s out in front

 

They were the only hunters

on the Pasta Serengeti

hoping for the finest game,

rotini or spaghetti

 

One time they snuck up on a herd

of wild fettuccini;

last year they came home carrying

a flock of slain linguini

 

Smaller kills like rigatoni,

penne rigate or campanelle

are not quite as impressive,

though they feed the family well

 

This time they brought their big guns

for the pasta grail most holy,

stalking an entire pack

of spinach ricotta ravioli!

 

 

Author's Note

When we would plan a family ravioli dinner, my father would claim the job of "going out and shooting the ravioli".
