So beautifully nostalgic. I love how smells can flood the soul with memories which cannot be other wise reawakened. My grandparents owned a beautiful big house at the Jersey shore, and my grandfather's pride and joy was the concord grape vines in the backyard. Their scent was heavenly, and I would go out there and pluck them from the vine and let the juice dribble down my chin.....I can still smell their sweetness.
The "loved ones" who are "gone from our grasp" are not just the people from those times, they are those times as well.
Great write!! So many memories with so few words....

Thank you, Rubie! A very good point about the moments themselves...
Isn't it amazing how something as benign as a smell can absolutely transport you back to a certain place and time in your life? This happens to me all the time, and I'm absolutely floored by it. Beautifully written little piece; very simple, but the sentiment is there. You could possibly go into more detail if you decided to, to make it a little more personal, but overall, I think this is well done.

Wow...
I remember the way the little hummingbirds would gather around the honeysuckle, also at my grandmother's house, where I spent the summer days of my childhood.
And you brought those beautiful memories vividly to this old lady's heart.
Thank you, Rita.
Don't you ever put down that pen!!

Such a kind review - thank you! I am so glad that this gave you good thoughts!
I too enjoy the sweet fragrance of honeysuckle. Your poem takes me back to my parent's house in my youth, right across the bridge there in South Jersey, drinking lemonade in the backyard and smelling the honeysuckle in the air. Thank you Rita for this wonderful nostalgic journey.
