If I Were a Color

If I Were a Color

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

A classroom piece

"

If I were a color

I would be green

My favorite hue

In the nature scene

I might be mint

Or lime or chartreuse,

The shade of a shamrock

Or the branches of spruce

Of green’s lack of ease

A wise frog did sing;

It’s the color of Life

That renews in the spring

Spreading hope all around

With my lively sheen

Yes, if I were a color,

I’d surely be green

Excellent poem and, as it turns out, a great coincidence. I happen to have written a poem about green some time ago. I've never tried this and don't know if it can be done, but I'm going to try to send the poem to you right here. Here goes:

"Go Green"

My bedroom walls are painted green,
The coolest color ever seen.
You keep your reds and golds and blues.
Of all the hues, it's green I'd choose.

It's mint and olives, pears and peas
And slimy stuff and Christmas trees.
It's lizards, limes, and pickle jars.
It's leprechauns and men from Mars.

A massive spaceship's eerie glow.
The traffic light that signals "Go."
The fields and orchards farmers sow
And putting greens and lawns we mow.

It's camouflage for our marines.
It's em'ralds seen on crowns for queens.
It's scary masks on Halloweens.
It's ocean isles and jungle scenes.

It's cash our parents' bosses pay.
The color of St. Patrick's day.
The markers used to write my name.
The Hulk on my computer game.

An evil witch's eyes that glare.
A watermelon that we share.
The Celtics jersey that I wear.
It's what someday I'll dye my hair.

Would you let me know if you received this. Thanks, Richard

Well my fav color was red, but now is green by reading your this poem. This is a god given color, which can be found easily in nature.

Yes, it is, I think, the color of creation. Though red has its merits! Thanks!

Welcome
I like the sing song quality of this as well as the wording.
This is one of those poems you could read to a child that would become a favorite. Or even a perfect lead into a children's book that continues the story onward in the same pattern.

Enjoyed it. It had a very comforting quality to me. :)

Ha! Yes, that would be nice! Thank you, Ruth!
Metaphysically speaking green is the color of the heart Chakra, of Love, Of Hope, of Joy. I'd say a good color choice.

Thank you for reading, and for your information - I like that! :)
But it's not easy being green...

Is it easier being orange? Nothing rhymes with orange... ;)
