First Day

I’m nervous

I’m scared

I’m quite unprepared

Tomorrow’s the first day of school

 

I’ve got my supplies

And gut-butterflies

I’m afraid that they’ll think

I’m not cool.

 

It happens each year

This September fear

Children are such 

fickle creatures

 

I’ve got to be calm

Face the day with aplomb

After all, 

I am the teacher…

Yup, even teachers get scared. I remember my first day of kindergarten. I was actually pretty calm. It was the teacher that was freaking out. Good poem.

How any student could not think you were cool is beyond me. I wish I had teachers like you when I was in school. Love this poem Rita. I can still feel the anticipation of the first day of school and up there, the aroma in the air was always different on that day, I remember that fondly.

Thank you, Jack. I love the first day, and dread it at the same time... pretty much the feeling of the kids, I think. And believe me, my "cool" shrinks in comparison to my geekiness! 8-)

Ha. I hate sending my kids off to school...My youngest is starting is 10th grade year at a new school... It makes me physically sick to think about it. I can only imagine how he feels inside.
Of course, we all put a good face on it.

7th and 8th grades (ELA, Religion, Science). Great grades to teach - they already know it all! :)
