Parts of a Cell, I Know Them Well

Parts of a Cell, I Know Them Well

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Science class...

"

An animal cell is eukaryotic,

A word that sounds pretty exotic;

It only means the parts inside

Wear their coverings with pride

A cell membrane protects the cell

The cytoplasm’s the filling gel

The nucleus controls things well,

A most important organelle

Mitochondria used for food break down

ER moves the parts around ~

Rough are many, smooth are some,

The endoplasmic reticulum

Ribosomes are protein makers

Golgi bodies are journey takers.

Wherever an organism dwells,

All living things are made of cells

A very innovative idea to try and spice up what some may see as a mundane and punitive subject!

A + grades for your science pupils this end of term Rita and a prize rosette for their star teacher! (maybe even a promotion too, me thinks??)

Thanks, Mark - the kids were partial to the Golgi bodies...
Very cool Rita, I never had any fun teachers like you in school, maybe I would have retained more if they had taught it in poetic stanzas! ;-)

I'm sure I would have enjoyed science more that way, too. Thanks, Frieda!
Your talents are going to help the kids remember the things you teach. Great science lesson in a poem.

This is fabulous. What a fun mnemonic device! You should put it to music and I'll look for you on youtube! It was a trip down memory lane, ribosomes I remember them!

Wish I had a teacher like you. This was cute and informative. I think I will learn this one and so re-learn what was in my mind undone.

So far, this is the only science-themed piece. I wrote a few based on history that are posted here.

What an innovative memory jogger, Rita. Your students will love you and you can feel good that you've taught them a lot. Good work! I enjoyed the rhythm, rhyme and fact that you have enlivened a fairly boring subject. Write on!
