Parts of a Cell, I Know Them Well

Parts of a Cell, I Know Them Well

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Science class...

"

An animal cell is eukaryotic,

A word that sounds pretty exotic;

It only means the parts inside

Wear their coverings with pride

A cell membrane protects the cell

The cytoplasm’s the filling gel

The nucleus controls things well,

A most important organelle

Mitochondria used for food break down

ER moves the parts around ~

Rough are many, smooth are some,

The endoplasmic reticulum

Ribosomes are protein makers

Golgi bodies are journey takers.

Wherever an organism dwells,

All living things are made of cells

This should be a big help to your students; it certainly is to me.

Class is always in session... Thanks, Marie!
Oh, how clever you are Rita!! This is a wonderful idea to teach your students how to remember these difficult names - my goodness, haven't heard these since college biology - And that was enough for me forever! I hope your "charges" are able to identify with them as you are making it so much more fun than just reading names from a text book!!!!

What the hell does this have to do with a phone. :). Rita, I only have one question, where were you when I was in school? (Ok don't answer that) Very smart littel poem here and what a wonderful way to give your students something more than just a text book. Very cool indeed.

Thank you, Jack. I suppose I'll find out how effective this is after Thursday's quiz... :)
A brilliant way and poem to teach the power and marvel of science. You are indeed a smart teacher along with a poet...:)
How much do I owe you? ( just kidding )

a novel way to teach science...that was my worst subject, but might have peeked my interest with what's in here...poetically speaking.

This will probably help your students remember the information you are teaching, Rita. Very creative teaching tool. The rhyming makes the words flow, but science was never my favorite subject in school. Clever work here. Lydi**
