Facade

Facade

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

Church bells in the distance toll

Each chime a torment on my soul

Ever-present, doom’s dark clouds

Harbingers of latent shrouds

Floorboards creak a serenade

Life, the Reaper’s masquerade

Reminds me of my childhood when I was still afraid of what lurked in the dark. That sense of tension as you pulled the covers tighter and tighter around you and your fear building with each little sound.

It does seem as though we are at the mercy of death. We do not know when it will come for us and when we yearn it, we are deprived of it, always keeping us guessing. It is like a sick and twisted joke of the gods, making us hustle and bustle just to have it cut short.

And cut short it will be, even if we live 100 years... Thank you for your insights, CM!
Very nice rhyming and very and well thought out wording. Once we are born we are already facing with death.

Or in the words of Iron Maiden "THere's a time to live and a time to die, when its time to meet your maker, There's a time to live but isn't it strange, the moment you're born you're dying."

Killer closing line (no pun intended haha). It's gotten to be kind of a trendy thing to cite Poe around here but the second-to-last line made me think of The Tell-tale Heart. An ominous piece that truly captures the spirit of this time of year. Nicely done Rita :)
