In Gratitude

In Gratitude

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

"

No poetry or intoned prayer

Can ever quite express

Our thankfulness to all who served

In military dress

We wave the flag and think of them

On days we’ve set aside;

We speak of valor past, and now;

Our hearts are filled with pride

To those who’ve sacrificed and stood

In wartime and in peace ~

And generations after

Who will serve ‘til all wars cease ~

Parades and graveside speeches

Are paltry dispensation

For the gratitude we owe

Your service to the nation

What an awesome poem! Far too many undervalue veterans and far too many veterans are abandoned by society when they return home struggling with what they've seen

Thank you, Frieda...
Oh, somehow I missed this on Veteran's Day but am thankful to have discovered it today as our gratitude is timeless, no matter what day we express it!
Your words that note the valor, and sacrifice by those who serve are expressed with eloquence and yes, we owe them gratitude beyond what we are able to convey in our words or deeds!!

A lovely poem of tribute to our heroes, past, present and future!!

Welcome Rita
I'm down with the "till all wars cease" part. Anyone arguing a case for war other than being directly attacked obviously hasn't been in one. Thank you Rita. I appreciate this

You were one of the people who came to mind as I wrote this, Mark. Thank you.
Thank you, Rita, for this beautiful tribute to our fighting men.
My deepest prayer is that, one day, these tributes might no longer be necessary....

Amen... Thank you, Angel
A fine tribute for all our men in uniform, Rita. As usual your rhythm and rhyme are spot on and much enhance the beauty of your poem.
