Excess

Excess

A Poem by Rita L. Sev
"

...

"

A curbside receiving line

of empty wrappings

and December trappings

~ A deflated greeting

in the cold morning light

The neighborhood is sleeping off

 its holiday hangover

and upon waking

will glance at the excess

and declare:

Never again!

Until next year…

Some get soooo much they don't know or remember WHAT they wanted... or even why...

And the item that they just "had to have" is forgotten in a month, for the next must have...
The number of gifts we give and get drive me nuts! We are living in excess.
I think I have used the phrase "First World Problems" way more than usual this past month.
"Oh too much food.. I just cant finish" "I don't have enough space for all my new gifts" hehe

That's so true. We really have no idea what problems are... and yet we are a country of complainers... read more

Sadly yeah
You have a good eye. This is a little masterpiece. I read this poem as if focusing on a painting...an entire story with a link to the future.

Very well done.

From the looks of my neighbors' refuse, there is more than one way to overdo it! :)

Yeah that's like skinning a cat lol:)
It is a worldwide epidemic! Sky News even did a report on it.. from the angle of trash overload and burglers using trash to case houses.

That's true, a burglar can tell which house got a new TV...
That's so true . I have seen an entire house no an entire neighborhood drowned and covered with lights . A nightmare on elm street to remove these . lol . Thanks for sharing

It's always such fun putting the decorations up, but such a chore to take them down... Thanks, Neil... read more
Such a build up that literally takes and lasts for months then in a flash its all over. Talk a bout your ultimate high then we crash back down to earth:) Oh well.....bring on next Christmas I say.

There is nothing like it, however fleeting! Thanks, Troy!
Christmas always leaves flat leftovrs. The anticipation is more exciting than the actual event.

Another occasion to overdo it... Predictably quirky... Thanks, Doc.
Hope springs eternal . . . Must be we all forget the morning after and just remember the joy of the day itself (unless, of course, the day was not so joyful.) You have captured that let down feeling perfectly.

I hope your Christmas day was filled with smiles and laughter, Rita.
