I am not against having a drink in celebration. It's just a disgrace that so many people use this day as an excuse to get wasted. It's also unnerving that the "drunken Irishman" image seems to be a perfectly acceptable stereotype... Um, no...

All I can say is thank you my friend...I actually saw a comic the other day where he says something like "in honor of my deed, I hope future generations will get drunk and throw up in the streets." Media commercialization has essentially ruined every English holiday on the calender...this is a most refreshing and as always, wonderfully- written piece...again I thank you :)

Thank you, Steve - I'm glad you appreciated the message here.
Personally I can't stand green beer...but some irish whiskey does the trick. As for your poem..its very true. We forget the meaning of so many holidays. Happy St. Patricks day. ;-)

Thank you, Red - I'm not a fan of food coloring in my beer (or anything else) either!

Haha...just doesnt seem right to me!! And I'm part Irish!
Haven't all holidays gone that route, it's all about drinking and feasting, not that I take offense to that in the least, I had myself a few green beers earlier...Cheers, always a punch in your poetry, no pun intended. ;-)

That is wonderful that you brought the true meaning of who we celebrate… now lets have some fun and drink green beer raising a glass to the man being honored.

A good ale (sans coloring) and a clink of the glass - here's to St. Pat!
Ria, I knew you were the oe person who wouldn't disppoint me. No one else seems to be writing about St. Patrick. I'm jsut about to post my own little verse, but it doesn't compare to your poem.

Thank you so much, Marie! My Irish ancestors would not let me sleep if I forgot good St. Pat!

Apparently you and I are the only ones who remembered this day.
You are absolutely right, Rita. Many people do use this holiday....and others....to drink too much, party too hard, and then drive while intoxicated. A bit of history passed along, a wise message, and great rhyming to boot. I liked this. Lydi**
