Human - Kind?

Human - Kind?

A Poem by Rita L. Sev

Let’s ponder the term “humankind”

On so many occasions we find

That each root of the word

Is completely absurd

With both ‘human’ and ‘kind’ undermined

Wish it was not true... Thanks, Pryde.
I hear you on this one. We can only hope that someday we will evolve so that the irony is dispelled.

Evolution concerns itself with survival, but living is a whole different matter... Thanks, Blue.

I can only sigh in sympathy my friend...it is the ultimate oxymoron for sure, as many have already pointed out...I'm compelled to view the term as wishful thinking, an attempt to wish the absurdity away. I took a sense of irony from the limerick form as well, a form that's usually reserved for less serious observations...well done Rita :)

A bit of levity to lighten the reality... Thanks, Steve.
Great play on words. It certainly can be an oxymoron on occasion. Very clever. :)

Yep - so we better do better...
So very true. Humankind is, to me an oxymoron and always has been. Each root of the word is definitely hypocritical. Very clever piece.

Thanks so much, G!
An excellent and meaningful limerick. Sometimes I think the term "humankind" is an oxymoron.

Some days it seems so... but there are other times when kindness abounds... Thank you, Marie!
It only takes a few words to remind us how "inhuman" we may be towards our fellow man. How do we define a kind of human to compare to how we should regard our brothers and sisters? 'Tis a problem to overcome as we seek to take the two words and combine them in a way that is relative to our current place in the order of the universe.
Excellent thoughts!!
