Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance

A Poem by Rita L. Sev

Ten years from now

the age I print on medical forms

will begin

         with a different number

Ten years from now

the boy who mows my lawn

          will be a man

with a lawn of his own

Ten years from now

I will hold in my hands

            some piece of technology

            implausible in this moment

Ten years from now

I will lay flowers on a grave

            to honor a loved one

    in perfect health today

Ten years from now

            I will be incredulous

            at all that has occurred

            in ten years…

This serves as a reminder I think Rita that we should never take life for granted. What's in today will be different tomorrow let alone 10 years from now. My son is 10 years of age....when he was born touch screen phones were just trying to break out onto the market and now he's a wiz on an ipad and ipod and he said to me just the other day...."Daddy in ten years just imagine what kids will be playing with then" I looked at him and smiled and thought to myself...."yeah just imagine"

Nicely done Rita

A wonderful piece of perspective … everything shifts and changes … but the root of what we are remains the same.

So true. Thanks, Pryde.
exploring more on time i see! :) the first verse actually scares me ... given the usurpation by our government in that area .. the third verse really sparks my mind .. who can imagine the things we will have discovered and perfected in the world of technology .. the rest touches my heart with thoughts of family and reminds me how valuable our "time" is here on earth .. nice one Rita!

A life may come, a life may cease to exist, a life may be forever altered as well as that which surrounds us. You have captured the future in a way that makes it up close and personal..........ah, the future, what shall be, shall be.
Insightful with keen wisdom Rita!

Yes, the future is to be embraced, even those quirks we know are coming... Thank you, Sheila.
Ain't that the truth, it seems the weld is moving faster and faster and things change more quickly as the older we get. Life can change in a New York minute.

And hopefully you will still be writing here in ten years. This was really creative Rita. What a great idea and you wrote it so well. I really loved this poem today.

Thank you, Will... so glad you enjoyed this.
These things will all come true. And we'll look 10 years into the past and marvel at them...

You're most welcome
So true and yet we don't really allow ourselves to stop and think this way. Do we look at someone we love and think, "they will not be here in 10 years"? Perhaps, though, we should because by thinking this way, we will appreciate every second of the next ten years. A poem to change perspective....a poem that made me think and was well worth the read. Thank you! Lydi**

Heavy sigh....and the calendar pages turn!
My favorite part is "a man with a lawn of his own"
I find the strangest part of getting a little older is running into highschoolers I used to babysit.

Well penned :)
