This Day of Knights

This Day of Knights

A Poem by Rossen
"

Bring me to your King

"

I ride my steed upon this town
clanking armor is my sound

they will feel the thunder, from his flanks
pounding shoes of iron, on dusty planks

"lift the gate of this stony place"
      bring me to your King

I am to joust for him, that sought my skill
here is the seal and note from his quill~

      never have I, been unhorsed
I aim my lance to take it's course

the tournament sounds, free my soul

my visor drops into place
I ride with pride along this rail
through the slit,
"iron face"
full charge into the wind
I cradle this lance and tilt

"no man can take my blows"
I break helmets and men
       blood will run,
       "from his nose"

Great white light, loss of sound
what has happen to me?
laying on tournament ground

I lost my steed to others speed
now I...walk past Great Knights
of this Roaring little town...

You have a point, Rossen. No knight worth his salt would ride into a jousting ring without firmly convincing himself that he will unhorse his opponent. They doubtlessly knew the power of positive thinking even way back then. These medieval jousting poems reminds me of one of my favorite movies, called Knight's Tale, with Heath Ledger. It is just silly fun. If you haven't seen it, you need to go rent it. Another great write, my friend....:)

this was delightful Mr. Rossen, brave steeds and jousting, I can almost see the streamers of fanfare and hear medieval shouts of valiant Knights! loved it. Reminds me of a book i read as a child called "Half Magic"

This took me to the place of renaissance gatherings of yore days. The pomp and
circumstance of those days gone by adds a splash of color and glamour that I love to revisit in my mind. Thanks for sharing this.

Hahaha! Poor knight landed smack on the ground.:) I was revving up for him too. Could feel the powerful horse, the heaviness of the lance, my hot breath trapped in the helmet, full of pride as I charge! Sigh... And I really couldn't help but laugh when I read, "what has happen to me?" That is totally something I would say if I got completely knocked off a horse, near out cold from being hit with a big stick. How embarrassing.:) Thoroughly enjoyed this piece from the top to the very bottom!

When we let success go to our head we set ourselves up for failure. Great message in this poem.
