Gun For A Tongue

Gun For A Tongue

A Poem by Savannah Bly
"

Words that kill.

"
Gun For A Tongue
Let the bullets fly
From your mouth
Let them hit me
With a jolt of pain
And ultimate confusion
Let what comes next,
The rush of blood trickling down,
Condescend my every action
And state of being
With the words you have spoken
And the dark tone
Of your gunfire
Spit more bullets out
Because you still have ammo
And you see me lying there,
Struggling to hold on
While my eyes are bleeding tears
I trusted you
With the secrets I kept buried
You turned around to back-stab
But found another weapon
It left my body on fire,
My heart scarred,
And my soul damaged
Like you wanted
Out of this earthly plane,
I was cast into my darkest shadows
You were left still standing
You and your
Gun for a tongue

Unspeakably powerful...you've worked this metaphor for perfection, and garnered my undivided attention along the way...I wonder how many poets out there were inspired to become poets on the basis of what you're written about here...it was certainly a factor in my decision to pick up the pen many moons ago. In other words, I relate to this one very much and I'm sure I'm not alone in that regard...phenomenal piece Savannah.
