THE GAME OF LOVE

THE GAME OF LOVE

A Poem by Shabeeh Haider

 There are no playing fields,

It isn’t a board game.

But who plays the game of Love

Will never be the same.

There is no dice to throw,

No cards to set apart.

All alone you make your moves,

With just a helpless heart.

Quite often you will laugh,

More often you will cry,

At times you want to dance,

At times you want to die.

We won each other’s love,

We ruled each other’s heart.

Two souls wanting to be one

Were bound to stay apart.

The time has come to leave,

Now isn’t it a shame,

Even though I won your Love,

I somehow lost the Game....

Wow! Such a beautiful melancholy. Nice comparison. Souls become one, but destinies couldn't. Lovely ending. "Even though I won your love, I somehow lost the Game..."
Simply extraordinary. These kind of poems suit my taste- the rhymed ones I mean; not that I dislike those which are not rhymed.
The path of love is difficult and the destination is often never reached. Keep writing.

Shabeeh Haider,
Congratulations, I see this poem is from a book, 'Vagabond Heart." That is a really fitting title too. Well, Life is so full of the work of holding close those we love and putting in the time and responsibility to honestly portray who we are to them. It is complex and definitely can be, shall I say a gamble as we cannot force others to be what we want, make them stay and etc. This poem was kind of lyrical and lovely to read in it's sultry sadness.
Bless you bunches.

Many times it is a game. And mostly the loser is one who really loves. The master player escapes to start new games.
A wonderfully done piece. Good work.

Pleasure is all mine :-)
The game of love - you definitely described the rules quite accurately and you just never know how it'll play out - this game sounds like it didn't turn out too well but maybe the next game will bring a better ending :)

Anytime my dear
Life's most popular game as well as the most difficult to learn because the rules change from person to person. Great topic and I like you perspective and your rhyme scheme is flawless with true rhymes all, masterfully written and a pleasure to read. Standing Ovation! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!

This is a fantastic poem. Almost carefree in telling it evokes deep thoughts and reflection. It is also honest and obviously the result of a mind that has had great experience in observing and living.
