Nightmare

When your dreams fade into the darkness, leaving you to your monsters.

Monsters hiding in the darkness

Your insanity begins to settle in

Sins of your past chase you down

As you lose yourself, in the abyss of despair

Why had they abandoned you?

Shivering in the cold

What are you going to do now?

Quivering, as they approach you

You fall as your guilt trips you,

and your addictions hold you down

Agony claws at your very essence, 

as hope slips from your mind.

Alone... If only that were true

You can never escape your past

For when it finds you

It will burn you, for all of your sins

You pinch yourself 

Nothing happens

They grab you 

and with your final breath, you say one more thing

I like the last stanza! "You pinch yourself" It makes it so clear that the speaker wishes it were a dream, but it's not. Again, I'd think about punctuation. What lines are most important, and should the reader pause to think about?

I'm kinda speechless to be honest. Really strong poem. Makes me think of my own past and the bad things i have done (as everyone has at some point in their lives). Who would have thought that you turned out to be a great poet on top of a talented writer. I'm impressed.
