FORBIDDEN GIFT

FORBIDDEN GIFT

A Poem by Red Rose
"

A priceless escape from reality...

"
You revived last night.
All through a cursed gift.
A gift of momentary happiness
And the curse of remembering you.
Once again.

Dressed in a glamourous gown, I held my head high
Extravagant curtains draped the grand hall,
with a crowd fitting for a royal ball.
There you were among the sea of faces,
completely obvlivious of what's to come.

Then you turned, my heart skipping a beat,
just the way yours did.
Our eyes connected as did our souls.
I missed that aching feeling,
the feeling that made you whole.

You walked over, the talking drowned out.
The two of us alone, we didn't breathe.
I waited till you disappear, I waited till you walk away.
You didn't and we reemerged inside my head
Your hand reached out, stroking my cheek
as I etched your handsome features redefined in a suit.

Suddenly in your arms, I didn't move.
I held you tight, you holding me tighter.
You whispered in my ear the priceless words
"If I had known you will make me feel this way
I would never have gone.."

My eyes forced open, you vanished.
Dull light flooded into my mediocre room
Still felt your warm arms wrapped around me,
But it was only my blanket.

Oh man do I know that feeling of being so much more intuned with the mind's sweet illusion rather than what the real world has in store for you, gosh damn what a bore..... All rhyming rhythmics aside this was well fleshed out and kept me reading perhaps because no matter the age, gender or personality type we've all at least once had a dream that was too good to be true.

Those wishes and sweet dreams. Can be dangerous.

I like the above lines. Led reader to honest ending. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

I absolutely feel this piece! How every girl dreams to be a princess and to then find her prince. Unfortunately the perfect ones always leave, but the right ones are always by your side. I can feel the scene dripping into life in my head, I can feel the emotions running through every nerve. This is an astonishing, beautiful piece. Nice work!

No problem at all
A gripping story and one that many can relate themselves to, myself included. The imagery is lucid and fittingly dreamlike, swiftly awaking you from it much like the ending. I love that structuring and the message this speaks. The saying "if it's too good to be true, it probably is" comes to mind and sometimes it's not until we go to sleep that our deepest thoughts/wishes come out. Thank you for sharing!

Thanx! :)
This is intense. If we all had dreams like this - then we wouldn't want to wake up. Your usage of words has always been captivating to me and you have never failed to impress.

The last verse was outstanding - it snaps you out and crashes you to the ground with an almighty thump. What a great piece of work you have created here. Can we have some more.
