Lausanne 1840

Lausanne 1840

A Poem by Silmara McGarry

  He walks in brisk pace

The hat firmly seated on his head

Heart beating swiftly as an uncontrollable drum

The fairest red rose in his hand

In his mind, a thousand thoughts of what to say to her,

than he finally sets for the rarest of them all

In his deep wishes, he desires to be loved by her,

to be lifted to her never seen magic realms

Now he can glance her by the lake, dressed in a light mint dress,

embroidered with tin white silk laces

Her hat carefully placed as if seating on a unique flower

Her jasmine essence, perfuming the air all around her

She turns to him and smile, as though he was set by precious hands

He looks in her eyes and with the touch of her hand,

his heart stops pounding, he feels an enormous peace

Their past world was finished right there and then,

and a new time began that day, like it was all assembled by God.

This is such a beautiful soft poem with absolutely wonderful imagery that just sticks out in your head! The colors are so bright and vivid, but the image you chose only adds to your words, but of course, your words are the ones doing all the work! I can feel the passion and effort in each word. Not to mention a past life? I absolutely love that concept and I'm a sucker for anything to do with that, and history, different decades and such.

'Their past world was finished right there and then, and a new time began that day, like it was all assembled by God.' Such a strong intense finish and line that you should be extremely proud of! Your poetry is full of love and goodness. Thank you for sharing!

Such a beautiful setting for a romantic write. I have visited Switzerland and thought I had found heaven. You have captured that moment when they truly connected. When they had their future ahead of them and it was looking great. Isn't love grand Sil. Hope all is well with you.

For me, rightly or wrongly. these were lovers meant to be together.. in life, in death, in infinity. Your words are captivating, they slide eyes and mind into past time, another world.. and Lausanne is just that, even today. Your writing is near academic, holds Fact that isn't always apparent in other writing.. especially when it comes to romance, love.. passion. Will come back to read again because i have a feeling there are clues here i need to understand.

So romantic! and the photo makes is more and more romantic and I can imagine the scene through it. that day when two hearts wed for real, a new road, a new sailing opened in front of their eyes, filled with mixed feelings, no one can predict what that road hides for them, but hand in hand, heart in heart they can make it through.

🥰 Thanks indeed darling
The anticipation can be so scary...all the thoughts racing through the head...what will I say to her? what will I say to him?
Will she like me? Will he like me?
and all it takes is a smile, a touch...and everything changes and often couples just immediately fall into a rhythm...much like the one this poem has.
