Beautiful

Beautiful

A Poem by Richard M
"

Have tried so many times to put feelings, sadness, hurt into words. This has been through no fewer than twenty rewrites. Sorry so long, but had to get it out.

"

Anger mellows,

age comes, feelings die,

fires dim, years fade, but

  the heart goes on.

For a place of safety

  for the years ahead,

that I can live with

  the memories, the sadness,

that I can live in warmth, in rightness,

justified of love!

A patch of sun,

a place beyond anger,

a place of peace, of calm,

of strength, of healing,

a state of mind, to

  forget, but to remember!

Faces through the years,

like empty corridors,

all of them as heartbeats,

now as stars in a

  darkened sky;

eyes that just wouldn't see,

didn't understand a

raging in the heart of me.

A loss unspeakable yes, but

  a strength, the strength

  to go on.

Happy memories, that

  I not fade away.

They live in dreams

  of my heart.

Beautiful, to

  shelter in its peace,

rest in its quietness,

in its wisdom,

to listen to her voice,

to see her evening skies.

'Be happy,

  for the years of love,

for you loved

  strongly, deeply.

Be grateful for

  memories held,

be happy and proud

for a love held so long.

Always look for and

  remember the good.

Be grateful for that love.'

They'll never be more

  beautiful than when

  I loved them.

Love dies in me,

opportunity lost to them.

Maybe they helped me to grow.

A light shone,

a darkness that

  didn't understand

a heart spoken, expressed.

I loved true of me,

now pieces left behind ....

Remembering

  the good times,

the little memories.

Just to remember the sun;

the good times  ....

  for a lifetime  ....

Hang onto those pieces!

'You were true to your heart,

you followed your heart,

you were true to self.

You loved them, but

  you did love;

Your loving them

  happened for a reason,

it was worth it just to love.’

Celebrate that it existed!

If I felt something

  it was worth it.

Be happy, please be happy!

'Somewhere in the

  soul of you they live,

remember their beauty,

remember feelings that kindled,

remember the love,

they are the heart of you.'

'Love doesn't cease to be love

because it doesn't find a home.

Maybe in not having them,

you did have them, in a way

  no-one could, through your

  honesty, sincerity, truth.

Maybe that is to be your sun,

your warmth in this chapter.

They are part of your story.'

'No-one can take that love from you,

can take away what it meant,

your feelings and thoughts spoken,

no-one can speak against the heart,

can say your feelings,

your loving them was wrong.’

‘Be happy, please be happy!’

Just memories laying easy,

no anger, but peace,

a love forever

My love is young and fresh,

for a love I never knew, and

  that I should choose them!

remember Beautiful,

go there often,

think this,

read this,

live this everyday!

There are echoes of Shakespeare's sonnet 116 in this, not so much the form as the content. It is a beautiful contemplation on unspeakable joy; on the secret inner happiness that comes from loving and being loved. I very much enjoyed reading. F.

Sometimes, I remember things from too long ago... from when I was a different person, and I feel so much guilt and regret over making such life changing decisions equipped with such a poorly developed state of mind. But i Know now... I am not the same person, but I still must own those consequences, responsibilitya and accountability are still all mine to reconcile. This is what emotional maturity is... not just taking the pain, not just "learning" from the pain.... but using it, in the real world to make yourself and those around you into better versions of what they might otherwise be. You're a good writer... you do good things with what you are capable of,,,, I have unique respect for that.

A very honest poem; one speaks of love, which a times can be painful, but one's heart is always there to comfort; You showed us your true feelings; memories can be happy or sad; life is too short to dwell on the despondent feelings; so we must open our hearts to life and the good thing it can bring to us.....
Thank you for sharing.

I enjoyed this Richard but I felt it was played out over too many lines, and it got a bit diffuse and confusing at times. I should try a bit of judicious pruning and it may improve the overall quality.

Hi there,
Been awhile since I reviewed any of your work... mainly because I broke my clavicle and I type with one finger on my left hand..not easy...
I really enjoyed your poem.
Believe that although love can end up being painful that if one keeps an open heart, then love will reappear.
I think it is amazing that you could pour out your feelings...and I do believe by doing so it helps heal.
I do not know why but for some reason I am brought back to a memory of being young and being upset about something...and, my mother saying write down all your feelings then tear up the paper and flush the pieces down the toilet... I suppose this was her therapy... I can not remember if it worked or not...
Isn't it amazing that a poem can evoke memories...
I really was drawn to these lines...
'No-one can take that love from you,
can take away what it meant,
your feelings and thoughts spoken,
no-one can speak against the heart,
can say your feelings,
your loving them was wrong.’
These words of yours are so true,
Lisa, still in Spain

It can be scary to put your heart out there once you've been hurt. But when finally the one is found it's well worth it. Your poem captives so much. All I can say is...
