Heartbreak

Heartbreak

A Poem by Caitlin
"

It's hard to tell your mind to stop loving someone, if your heart still does.

"
Heartbreak.
your words stumble and fall
and suddenly
you're down on your knees
clutching at the gaping
bullet wound,

through your heart.
You thought he loved you
but you were wrong.
Because you were up all night
thinking.
But he couldn't care less
about the likes of you.
You know when it's bad
when you can't get out of
bed.
And the food on your plate
is dull and boring
feeling the pounding in your head.
But it will get better
they say
but you shake your head.
For you do not want to feel better
if feeling better is without him,
instead.

Those three finishing lines say it all.. tis the quandary of staying together yet alone or.. flying free but.. still held by your heart-strings.

You write so well, emotions open to the air, exposing your every nerve. What to say about the situation is perhaps secondary.. who knows, you are a true poet who could write about a dirty puddle yet still make it intensely beautiful.

So true. Heartbreak is one of those terrible things that cannot be remedied. I love the power behind the piece and how the visuals are used to show the reader the pain that is experienced from a broken heart.

Powerful piece. I could see this scene vividly and the details of the room, the bed, even the lighting and smells. You included little clues, yet the anguish and hopelessness filled in the rest. I will be reading more.
